Part 1 SOLDER CONNECTION BETWEEN THE 2 CIRCUIT BOARDS ! Note - This Is a Fix I found for the 2 units I purchased - This is not For Sales nor Service of The RTL Devices - It was posted to help fellow hobbyist and not to compete with other posted video's. I am Using HDSDR with the Zadig USB Driver and the Generic RTL SDR DLL An Easy Fix to get your RTL SDR to Receive HF Radio in the Q Input Mode. Ive had luck with Windows XP service pack 3 - Window's 7 and 8-1 . There are 2 Inputs and your software needs to support Both. Below 30 Mhz is a Balanced Q input not the direct sampling dedicated to VHF UHF Bands. I Found many of these Units are assembled with a flaw when they leave the Chinese Factory. The hf circuit that connects directly to the sdr chip is not connected which makes the Q mode a dead duck. Even when mix minus circuit is attached the reception is weak with lots of spurs and phantom signals but it does work. Using an Up converter dedicated for the hf band will achieve better results. But don't confuse a HF upconverter with the Q inputs. Trouble Shooting tips - Don't Panic ~ 1-The Jumpers connect the LNA Circuit to the PCB Q inputs not in UV Mode 2-If the program does not see the RTL SDR Is the ZAGID Driver for the USB port Installed? 3- All I get is the sound card on the software - The USB Driver and DLL are not Installed 4-No Signal but Software works and jumpers installed - Are you Using a long wire and not the UHF Antenna? 5- To Many Images and spurs - Use as longer USB cable get the SDR away from the Computer - To Many images - Turn the AGC down or off. 6-Everything works but I get low signals - Shortwave is best in the Evenings 7-11pm on 6-10 Mhz Your dealing with the Atmoshpere SW is not 24-7. Shortwave is Quirky and is A challenge try these freqeuncies when the sun goes down in the USA Here are some easy ones. Time Clock 5.0-10.0-15.0 mHZ WWV CO & HI USA 3.330 7.850 14.670 CHU Canada Radio China 6.020 9.570 9.580 beamed to the US from the HF site in Cuba around 8-11 pm EST A HF antenna needs to be a long wire outside of the Structure your in to receive. How Long ? Take 234 divide by the frequency Example 234/9.500 = 24.6 Feet Using A 9:1 Balun Will hold the Impedance ( AC Resistance) low to the Input which is looking for 50-75 Ohms - A long wire is sitting high at 300-500 Ohms. Using the Supplied UHF antenna on HF is totally Pointless.
