First, if you’re having trouble drawing hands, more than likely you’re going to (maybe even subconsciously) draw characters in poses that either hide hands all together, or characters who are doing nothing with their hands...you don’t want to be limited in that way. Even more importantly, I think, you don’t ever want to get into the mindset where you shy away from drawing things simply because you find them difficult. I do so to make it easy to see each separate step in the process. While you're free to draw with any pencil, pen, marker, or digital pad you wish, I recommend keeping it as simple as possible.
