Alfa 159 EGR removal & clean, Then things spiral out of control!

Decided to try and fix the lumpy running on the new 1.9 JTDm Alfa 159. The day started with a quick ECU scan to check for historic codes. luckily nothing came up, Great! Next job was to remove and clean the notorious egr valve. It was a bit grubby but not as bad I kind of hoped it would be. after that was cleaned and refitted I had a brew and decided to look at the MAP sensor. It was filthy!! after a good clean and refit I started the car and was happy to see it was running smoothly... for 15 seconds!!! It sounded like someone threw a bolt into the engine internals or worse still! like something had fallen into the turbo! test drive showed the car had NO POWER! literally nothing. after hours of searching and worrying and trying everything I could, including removing the egr and map again and cleaning them, again.
