🏆 Montagu Cup Final 2025 📍 Mexborough Athletic Ground – The Historic Home of the Montagu Cup 👥 AFP Pewter Pot (Rotherham & District Sunday League) vs Westville FC (Mexborough Sunday League) The 2025 edition of the iconic Montagu Cup Final did not disappoint! A historic competition held annually since its formation right here at Mexborough Athletic, this final brought together two determined sides from different Sunday leagues, in front of a brilliant crowd of 1,362. 🎤 Before kick-off, I spoke with Chris, who has been involved with the Montagu Cup since 2019, about the magic and history of this competition. I also had the honour of chatting with HH, a man from North Wales who once played in the Montagu Cup 60 years ago, and went on to officiate at the old Wembley and the Bernabéu – what a story! Alongside fellow YouTuber Aaron Challoner, HH also shared his memories from Dearne Colliery Welfare. ⚽️ On the pitch, Westville were fired up from the start – full of desire and aggression. Around the 35th minute, they broke the deadlock after a well-timed run beat the offside trap and the ball was slotted home despite a defender’s best effort on the line. 1-0 at the break. 🟡 The second half saw AFP Pewter Pot come back into the game, almost levelling it after being brought down through on goal – but the ref only showed a yellow card, which sparked frustration from the Pewter Pot bench and fans. Westville capitalised again in the 71st minute, making it 2-0 from a brilliant cross. Pewter Pot gave everything late on, pulling one back in the 89th minute to make it 2-1. They pushed for a dramatic equaliser and even thought they had one… but it was ruled offside by the assistant referee.
