Let's fall in love with the Czech capital of the US together. If you think you are from a small town, wait until you hear about Wilber: Population 1937 covering a grand total of .9 square miles. The census doesn't even measure population density in anything under a 1 mile squared and so we need to false inflate the population to 2150 to agree with census standard measurements. My Grandmother was born here in 1922. There were no cars and people literally transported around the .9 square mile area by horse. In honor of my late grandma, I had to see Wilber for myself. Look closely in the drive and you'll see lots of Czech stuff around the town from murals to museums. They are very proud of their Czech past, I mean we, WE are very proud of our Czech past and rep it proudly. I wanted to get some Czech swag but everything was closed around 3pm when I was driving through. I imagine everything is closed often. This city is all bought and paid for so there's no need to really push the economy. We export corn and that seems to keep things moving forward. Luckily I could find 1 spot open for lunch, Strokers Saloon. They were near closing time (3pm) so I ate quickly. Freshly fried chicken sandwich, crinkle fries and a root beer. That's a massive win. I bought a t-shirt which were stored neatly on top of the fridge. Who knows how long they've been resting there. Either way, I saw a part of my family's story, which for a chapter was here, in Wilber Nebraska.
