War Against Smuggling:Customs Busts ₦478m Contraband in Kwara, Intercepts Lithium Ore, Smuggled Rice

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kwara Area Command has intercepted several contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value of over ₦478 million, highlighting a major attempt at economic sabotage and the vigilance of officers of the Command. The Acting Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Najeem Ogundeyi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ilorin the State capital, where he briefed journalists on the Command’s activities over the past two months. According to the Kwara Customs boss, the seizures include 120 sacks of illegally mined lithium ore intercepted at the Alapa/Banni axis, 1,107 bags of foreign parboiled rice, nine vehicles loaded with 50kg bags of smuggled rice, and 317 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), among other items. The seized goods have a combined Duty Paid Value of over ₦478,171,000.
