Sexism and misogyny in South Korea run deep – so much so that the country has the highest gender pay of any wealthy nation. While its boardrooms and politics are dominated by men, the country’s president has said structural sexism is a ‘thing of the past’. He has campaigned on the promise of closing the Gender Equality Ministry, which supports women and those who have been sexually assaulted. And some young women have made it their mission to stop that from happening - we speak to some of them about the impact the ministry closure may have on women’s lives. Among them, Park Ji-hyun, who once helped bust one of South Korea’s biggest online sex-crime rings and then became a rising star in Korean politics.
