Lucy Mack Smith seems to suggest a much shorter time span. The same source also estimates that Joseph recovered the plates from a spot on the hill about 30 to 40 “rods” from the road (Canandaigua Rd.). Keep in mind that this is an antagonistic, non-first-hand source that contradicts some other accounts. It should be read with a healthy amount of skepticism.
