In this video I take you through the complete transformation of a corner of my garden into a dedicated conifer bed. Over the past year I've raised and mounded the soil to about half a metre high across roughly 20 square metres, built a hand-laid brick wall around the semi-circular bed, sourced and planted around 10–12 varieties of dwarf and slow-growing conifers, and created a shaded mini-woodland corner complete with bird boxes and shade-loving perennials. The bricks came from my neighbour's wall — I took it down myself, brick by brick, chiselling off the old mortar by hand. The soil came from digging out the adjacent rhododendron bed. The conifers I tracked down by visiting nurseries across the south of Sweden throughout the previous year. I also cover how the conifer bed connects stylistically with my gravel garden next door — using stone boulders, creeping junipers, and grasses to create a visual thread between the two areas. In this video: ✅ How I planned and built the raised bed and mound ✅ Laying the recycled brick wall step by step ✅ A tour of all 14 dwarf conifer varieties ✅ The woodland corner — shade plants, logs & bird boxes ✅ Climbing hydrangeas along the back fence ✅ How it connects to the adjacent gravel garden 🌿 New videos every week — subscribe so you don't miss the next project!
