Steps, a British dance-pop group, emerged in May 1997 and quickly soared to success with two number-one albums, 14 consecutive top-5 singles, and over 22 million records sold globally. They earned a BRIT Award nomination in 1999 and even served as the opening act for Britney Spears during her debut American tour that same year. However, when members Claire Richards and Ian "H" Watkins departed to form a duo, the group disbanded in 2001. In a surprising turn, Steps reunited in May 2011 for a Sky Living documentary series, "Steps: Reunion," followed by the release of their second greatest-hits album, "The Ultimate Collection," which debuted at No. 1. The band continued to make waves with their third album, "Light Up The World," and a Christmas tour in 2012. A second reunion in 2017 celebrated their 20th anniversary, leading to the release of their fifth studio album, "Tears on the Dancefloor," in April 2017. Steps' momentum persisted with their sixth studio album, "What the Future Holds," released in November 2020, accompanied by three singles. Building on this success, their seventh studio album, "What the Future Holds Pt. 2," featuring new tracks and a fresh sound, was released in 2021. The group's third compilation album, "Platinum Collection," dropped in August 2022, securing their status as the first British mixed-gender group with four number-1 albums in four different decades.
