Lifting heavy burdens, straining because of constipation or chronic coughing can result in such hernias. A hernia can also occur through a weak scar or site of earlier abdominal surgery. This is known as an incisional hernia. Another common hernia is a Hiatus hernia, which causes acidity. Then there are some rare hernias like Spigellian and Obturator hernias. A hernia may be accompanied by an acute pain. This needs to be immediately shown to a surgeon as it could be a strangulated hernia and should be immediately treated to avoid serious complications and unnecessary, avoidable expenses.
