Gravitation (2025): Lecture 7 - Informal introduction to Riemannian manifolds.

In this lecture I first study 3-dimensional Euclidean space in different coordinate systems. We see that different coordinate systems give different descriptions of the same region of space. The appearance of the length element changes from one system to another, but actual lengths between pairs of the points stays the same. We introduce the metric, argue that it transforms like a tensor, and then examine the case of the 2-sphere.
