Exactly one year ago, on the 4th of February 2017, I decided to start my YouTube channel. I am more than 30, and I have composed music for most of my life. I started playing the piano at 5, and as a kid I immediately felt the urge to try my own thing, to play my own melodies. At 15 I decided to start studying classical composition. For many years as a teenager I was just writing on score (paper and pencil!), sometimes I would record myself playing on the piano. At around 20 I got my Roland synth, and started using it as sequencer to produce music. I recorded a few tracks, designed a CD sleeve, made a few copies and distributed them among my family and close friends. A few years passed, I moved to another country, completed my degree (nothing to do with music!), found a job (nothing to do with music!), started a life. But never stopped making music. Maybe five years ago, I started developing an interest for music for films. Around that time I switched to composing using a professional DAW. I was doing a lot of rescores for movies or TV. I would just get a film clip, remove the soundtrack, and remake it myself. I did this for years, and after some time I thought I was getting good at it: but the truth was, I had absolutely no feedback, no way to know whether I had potential, no idea if people would like my music. In these many years since I was a kid I produced hours and hours and hours of music. And yet, very few people ever heard a single note I composed. Until everything changed. I decided to start a YouTube channel with zero expectations. I uploaded my first music videos with the idea of giving my music away for free for creators to use as they liked. I thought maybe if people saw it was free, I would receive that sporadic visit, and get some feedback. Maybe in a few years someone would notice me. I honestly never expected in less than a year people would actually come to my channel specifically to listen to my work. I mean, look around, there's so much music out there, why would anyone decide to listen to ME! And so here I am, 12 months later, on the 4th of February 2018. I will not talk about numbers. They are too big. Too many people, too many views, too many likes, too many comments. But I will talk about feedback. Your feedback. In the past year I learned so much about myself, about the "Musical me", much more than I learned in all of the preceding years. And in the meanwhile I received the most incredible and positive feedback. Reading how my music could make an impact on someone else's life is a feeling that cannot be described. Knowing that people in remote corners of the earth used my music, and took the time to thank me for that, explaining what worked, what didn't, why a certain bit was perfect to score something, why a track title didn't work, what my music would make them feel. All of this is just overwhelming, and I don't even know where to start thanking each and every one of you. I just hope I can continue making music for many more years to come, and while I want to become a professional film composer, I know that whatever happens in my professional life, I will continue to come here to upload music for a long time to come. I will not forget this place, where I went from being nothing, to being something. ************************** This track is released under a CC-BY licence.
