This procedure is often performed when a patient is experiencing a tumor in the parotid gland and is done as an out-patient procedure. During a micro parotidectomy, a very small incision is made in front of and behind the ear. The facial nerve is also located to ensure that no harm is done to the area. Following the micro parotidectomy, any facial reconstruction that needs to be performed is completed, allowing the patient to never look like they've experienced any sort of surgery.
