How to set up a minimally invasive surgery program

This presentation was recently delivered by invitation at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress 2021 on the 11th of May 2021. It represents our experience with setting up and maturing several minimally invasive procedural programmes over the past decade, including VATS and robotic lobectomy, all-arterial off-pump CABG, and mini-thoracotomy aortic valve surgery. We explain what we think are important considerations that will maximise the chances of success of any new surgical programme. I would love to hear any feedback and comments about the experience others have had on this topic. Particularly, on how we can minimise patient harm and maximise the success of the programme early on in the experience.
