Trekruise '87 East Part 1 May 15-17, 1987 This is the official documentary video for the first Star Trek Cruise to ever take place, Trekruise '87 promoted by Joe Motes (who also promoted land based Star Trek and Sci-Fi conventions for over 30 years). This cruise took place about 6 months before Star Trek The Next Generation premiered on television, though every fan knew it was coming. As far as I know, this and the West cruise by Joe were the only cruises ever that were devoted solely to original Star Trek. The Star Trek cast members sailing were DeForest Kelly (Dr. McCoy), George Takei (Mr. Sulu), Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura), Walter Koenig (Mr. Chekov), James Doohan (Mr. Scott), Grace Lee Whitney (Yeoman Rand), Majel Barrett (Nurse Chapel), Mark Lenard (Ambassador Sarek) and David Gerrold (wrote The Trouble With Tribbles episode). The ship was the SS Emerald Seas The iitenerary: Miami to Nassau, Bahamas, then to Little Stirrup Cay out island. [Kenny's note: I attended this cruise. After months of begging my mom, she graciously purchased tickets for herself, my brother and me. I am on this video several times, once with George Takei on the beach (George was my snorkeling partner) and in the ballroom and finally I can be seen hanging with Robin Curtis at the end. This cruise is where I met Joe Motes, who became a lifelong mentor and friend and eventual Star Trek convention partner. Joe's contribution to Star Trek is undeniable. On this cruise, I asked David Gerrold if I could play Wesley Crusher knowing he was to be a teenager. He told me no, they had already cast the role lol]
