태풍 카눈 오전에 상륙 후 북상 중.. 이 시각 강원도 동해 상황은? Good evening. Thank you for joining us. I'm Yoon Jung-min. We start with the latest on Typhoon Khanun that's slamming the country with heavy rain and strong winds since making landfall this morning. Our Song Yoo-jin is standing by who's been closely monitoring the typhoon's progress. Yoo-jin, how's the storm looking from where you are? Jung-min, I'm on the east coast in the city of Donghae, Gangwon-do Province. It's been heavy rain and strong wind since early this morning. Since yesterday until early this afternoon, the eastern part of Gangwon-do Province like here in Donghae, has been getting around 3-hundred millimeters of rain. You can actually feel the typhoon coming, as heavy downpours up to 80 millimeters per hour have been battering this region for a couple of hours now. And people here are bracing for more as the typhoon is set to approach the province sometime between 6 and 9 PM tonight. The weather agency expects up to 6-hundred-millimeters here by Friday, which is the heaviest rain forecast in the country. With this relentless rainfall, there's really no point in wearing a raincoat or carrying an umbrella. Here, trees are wobbling and most stores nearby are closed. Police patrol cars are out on the road to make sure people stay away from coastal areas as tall waves are violently crashing over sea walls. The weather conditions turned even more brutal after the typhoon made landfall near the city of Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do Province at around 9:20 AM. After reaching the peninsula, it is moving upwards and will cut its way through the country. The entire nation is expected to be under the typhoon's influence by tonight. Gusts are expected to reach up to 35 meters per second, which is strong enough to bring down trees and derail trains. Extra caution needed. And Yoo-jin, what sort of precautions have been in place? Right. Typhoon alerts were issued nationwide this morning, with landslide alerts also being extended to more regions as we moved into the afternoon. Authorities are on high alert as we expect further heavy rain and strong winds as the typhoon makes its way north. With safety as the utmost priority, at least 10-thousand-6-hundred people have evacuated their homes. Over 350 flights across the nation have been canceled for the day. It's not just the skies that are being affected. Dozens of railway services and sea routes have been suspended. Roads and more than 6-hundred hiking trails have been closed. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters during its meeting this morning ordered the heads of local disaster headquarters to stand by around the clock until the typhoon passes. It also stressed that those living in flood or landslide-prone areas should be ready to evacuate immediately in case of emergency. That's all I have for now. Back to you. That was our Song Yoo-jin reporting live. #Temperature #Summer #Typhoon #Khanun #날씨 #여름 #태풍 #카눈 #8월 #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : / arirangtvnews 📣 Twitter : / arirangtvnews 📣 Homepage : https://v2.arirang.com/ 2023-08-10, 18:00 (KST)
