Local pond fishing for rainbow trout using Pautzke Fire Baits. This line of dough baits is by far one of the most effective trout producing baits on the market. For only a fraction of the price of generic power bait you're guaranteed to leave with a few bows in the basket. Today was pretty warm in SoCal , so the trout were down deep forcing us to throw one of the only baits that catches trout when bite is slow and the trout are hunkered down in deeper water not willing to bite very many baits. Gear used: Medium action rod/reel , 4lb flurocarbon , 1/2 oz lead egg weight, swivel to match, short 15" leader since the trout were holding deep, and finally a size 16 trouble hook toped with a small ball of the magic (Pautzke Fire bait) which sealed the deal.
