This tune is a dark Appalachian ballad written from the perspective of a sailor aboard the USS Liberty. We try to tell the story quietly and plainly, in the tradition of old mountain laments where repetition and restraint carry the weight more than accusation or spectacle. On June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War, the USS Liberty, a lightly armed U.S. Navy research ship that was attacked by Israel while operating in international waters. Thirty-four crew members were killed and 171 were wounded. This song remembers them the way old songs remember the dead: by naming the cost, letting the silence speak, and trusting the listener to feel the truth. Our arrangement leans toward Appalachian bluegrass and dark Americana. There’s no rush, no anger, and no theatrics, just the sound of memory being carried forward. This is not a political argument. It’s a remembrance for the men who didn’t come home, for those who carried the wounds, and for a story that needs sharing. Please like, share and subscribe.
