Discussion on Semantics in Linguistics and AI with Prof Barbara Partee Barbara Partee is Distinguished University Professor Emerita of Linguistics and Philosophy at University of Massachusetts Amherst. Barbara finished her BA in mathematics with High Honours with minors in Russian and Philosophy from Swarthmore college in 1961 and her PhD in Linguistics from MIT in 1965. She started her teaching career at UCLA where she taught Linguistics from 1965-1972. She joined the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at UMass Amherst in 1972 and has been teaching there since. Barbara Partee has taught and mentored generations of linguists. She has received numerous awards and honours for excellence in teaching and research over the decades. She served as President of the Linguistic Society of America. She is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and also an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences. Most recently, she is the recipient of the 2020 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Computer and Cognitive Science for her "foundational contributions that synthesize insights from linguistics, philosophy, logic, and psychology to understand how words and sentences combine to express meaning in human language," by the Franklin Institute.
