I do understand that assertion, because it has a lot of YA elements- hard not to when a while part of the book is all about people age shaming or being agist towards the MC. A less YA version of this book would perhaps focus less on romance and agism, and more on the existential aspects of the novel. It did delve into that, but it was more of an action novel IMO. However, I was definitely throughly entertained and definitely stayed up past my bed time devouring the book. A hallmark of good writing, YA or not.
