Tie The Black Holo Diawl Bach with Alun Rees

The Diawl Bach is a mainstay in any anglers flybox and accounts for numerous fish each year. In it's original guise, this Welsh fly is a sombre pattern that utilises few materials; a characteristic that many Welsh flies share. The use of black in it's makeup lends this pattern to early season and those situations where a general pattern is required.By varying the pattern, using both goose biots and/or fluro fire orange tying silk, the pattern becomes even more versatile and can cover even more situations. I'd rate this fly one of my top five go to patterns. Often, in conjunction with a Blob, Fab or Booby on the point, I'll fish two of these on a fast glass or DI3 early season. If buzzers are hatching, you're almost guaranteed to catch. Need I say more! Dressing: Hook: 10's and 12's Silk: Black or Flouro Fire Orange 70D Tail: Black hackle fibres Body: Black Peacock Herl Rib: Narrow holographic black tinsel Throat Hackle: Black Hackle Fibres Cheeks: (optional) Caramel dyed Goose biots Head: Clear Varnish
