Two years of violence and displacement have shattered the lives of millions of children across Sudan. Fatuma, now 13, was taking an exam at her school in Khartoum the day the war began. "In the middle of the exam, a teacher entered and asked us to put the papers away," Fatuma recalls. "She didn't tell us why. She told us to go straight home and not to look around or linger in the streets." When Fatuma got home, her family was in a state of panic. Since the start of the war in April 2023, Fatuma and her family have been displaced six times. Home for now is a camp for the internally displaced in Kassala. UNICEF is working with partners to reach children in Sudan with the supplies and services they need to survive and thrive, including psychosocial support. At a UNICEF-supported adolescent club meeting, Fatuma and friends gather to do beadwork and feel a sense of hope and normalcy. "When I get home, I'll make a bracelet that reflects something I learned from my experience of displacement, and I'll keep it as a reminder," she says.
