Do you have foot pain? Flat feet? Plantar Fasciitis? Bunions? Have you been told you need orthotics? Then this video is for you. Dr. Karin talks about the three schools of thought: hard orthotics, soft orthotics and NO orthotics (the barefoot movement). Hard orthotics are the best for severe cases of plantar fasciitis during the acute stage. Once the inflammation of the plantar fasciitis calms down, soft orthotics are the best. Rigid orthotics hold the foot in it's neutral state, keeping pulling pressure off the plantar fascia. The problem with rigid orthotics is it prevents the arch from collapsing too much. The arch is designed to collapse some to help absorb the shock of the impact during the gait cycle. Your feet are like the rubber wheels of a car. If you replace your "flat tire" with "wagon wheels" (rigid orthotics), it will stress out the rest of the car and it's passengers. You want to replace your tire with a rubber tire (soft orthotic). For the barefoot movement, bare feet were designed to walk on soft ground. In our modern times we walk on hard flat surfaces. Can you see how this would stress our arches. This constant strain leads to plantar fasciitis and flat feet over time. This is why Dr. Karin prefers Footleveler orthotics. They are soft with lumps and bumps like nature, but the bumps are strategically placed to best support your feet, preventing your feet fro over collapsing (which can twist your knee, hips, unbalance your pelvic, etc). Plus, soft orthotics provide cushion for the rest of your body. To learn more, check out our website. Remember, you don't have to be in pain.
