You SENT Me Your Lizard… and I Painted It! (Using Watercolour Paints, Bubbles and Posca Pens)

Pet Portrait 4: +Watercolour Painting a Pet Lizard! Mixed Media Ideas Including Bubble Texture Technique + Posca Pen Patterns - Pet Portrait 3 In today’s ‘pet portrait’ video, I’m painting a gorgeous orange-and-yellow pet lizard with the most incredible spiky ruff around its head! I’m not even sure which species it is or what it’s name is - but that’s part of the fun. Every pet that is sent to me is a complete surprise and a new creative challenge. For this portrait, I decided to use watercolours, experimenting with different application methods including bubble painting (yes… blowing bubbles into paint!), ink, drips, layers, and washes to build rich textures. Then I bring in acrylic markers to add patterning, highlights, contrast, and all those little details that make the portrait pop. Finally, I used a Posca Pen to add a contrasting background. As an ex–art teacher and an artist who LOVES testing new techniques, this series is a way for me to explore, play, and share the creative process with you. I also paint abstract art, so you’ll sometimes see those influences slip into my pet portraits as well. WANT YOUR PET PAINTED? In future, I plan to charge for my pet paintings, but right now, as I build my channel, they’re no charge!
