Toledo Christmas Weed | How it brought a city together

Some unexpected Christmas magic pushed up through the pavement at one of the busiest intersections in Toledo, OH in 2018. It affectionately became known as the Toledo Christmas weed. A local family started it all with a strand of tinsel. "He thought it would make people smile if we decorated the weed." From there, Toledoans took over, adding more and more decorations to the weed and ultimately, that entire street corner. The story grew like a weed. It is actually the subject of several Facebook pages and national news. This lonely overgrown weed became a place to collect toys and food, a place to promote peace and love, and was also the location of a community gathering to sing Christmas carols. T-shirts were made, helicopter rides were given over it and a book was even written. Not to mention, a few marriage proposals. People from out of the city and state even, came to visit the weed.
