Returning to Heal: A Nurse’s Journey in War-Torn Kharkiv Oblast

Before the war, Tetiana was a nurse in a modern hospital serving her village of over 4,000 residents in Kharkiv Oblast. When Russian forces occupied the area, the hospital was destroyed, forcing Tetiana and her four-year-old daughter to flee for safety. After the village was liberated, Tetiana returned to help rebuild her community. Now, she provides medical care to neighbors in a makeshift clinic established by the local council. The clinic, supported by international aid, offers free medication and essential services to approximately 100 patients daily. Years of stress and shelling have taken a toll on villagers’ health, with many developing or worsening chronic illnesses. Tetiana herself has been diagnosed with diabetes but continues to dedicate her days to caring for others, demonstrating incredible strength and resilience.
