A fast and easy way to get a quick handful of trail mix while biking, hiking, or general adventuring, without having to touch the food with your hands! For the past month or so, I've been doing some bike courier work, and I work up quite the appetite over the course of a shift. It's easy to fall into the trap of popping into a convenience store for a candy bar or bag of chips, but doing that every time I have a shift isn't a very sustainable solution. I've started taking trail mix on my shifts, but it's a difficult thing to eat without actually touching the food with your hands. These days, when I'm out in the city, I definitely want to keep my bare hands away from any food that I'm eating. This snack sheath does just that, and makes it super easy to get a quick boost of energy without even getting off my bike! This project is built around a glass spice jar that I got from the dollar store. I wet molded a piece of 5-6 oz veg tan leather around the spice jar, and used some scrap pieces of leather to close the shape. The belt loop is made of a piece of 1-2 oz leather. The smooth, vertical sides of the spice jar make it super easy to slide into and out of the sheath, without any fumbling. I usually fill a couple of these jars before a shift, and keep the extra one in my delivery bag. Doing bike delivery through an app feels kind of like playing an open-world adventure video game, so I wanted to carve a video game health or food symbol onto the snack sheath. The Elder Scrolls series, mostly Morrowind and Skyrim, hold a special place in my heart, as I played them a lot with my brother when growing up. So, I decided to carve and paint a sweetroll on the sheath. It definitely brings a smile to face any time I reach for a handful of trail mix. I'll be the first to admit that this was a goofy, spur-of-the-moment project, but I've been getting a ton of good use of it while working as a bike courier. It's super low profile on my belt, and is an awesome edition to my courier EDC. It's really easy to slide the canister of trail mix out of the sheath while biking. I'm really excited to take the snack sheath hiking - I usually eat trail mix out of a plastic baggie, which inevitably spills everywhere as I'm awkwardly trying to get it out of my pack while walking. I think this is a much more elegant solution! Just waiting for someone to ask me, "Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll?" Thanks for watching!
