I want to share a story about my Bengal cat Chui that reveals something profound about human nature. In my house, there's only one tree she's not allowed to climb - my wife's favorite plant in the living room. She has the run of the entire house, but guess which tree she's obsessed with? The forbidden one. It reminded me of the Garden of Eden, where God gave Adam and Eve everything except one tree. Yet that's exactly the tree they chose. There's something in our nature - what I call our soulishness - that draws us to the very places God says "don't go there." Whether it's that grudge we feel justified holding, that conversation at the water cooler we know we shouldn't join, or that flirtation we tell ourselves is harmless. But here's the beautiful truth: there is one tree God invites us to approach - the cross of Jesus Christ. At that tree, we find everything we need for life and godliness. Love, joy, peace, and the power to overcome those destructive impulses that pull us toward the forbidden places. I don't know what "tree" you might be drawn to today, but I encourage you to choose the one God says you can freely approach. It will not only make your day - it will transform your life.
