These are videos of me playing along with some pre-recorded tunes, showing how I typically practice material for one of my bands when I'm at home. Click below on SHOW MORE for technical details and song-specific information. This bass is a Harmony H22 (1966) with Pyramid Gold flatwound strings. It is my main bass for playing live with both of my active bands. It is not as loud unplugged as my Framus, but plugged in it sounds huge. It's not in perfect condition but it's close enough for me. Ideal neck width, string spacing, and tone. If I ever lost this bass, I would die. ------------------------------------- This tune is one of the newest additions to the band's set list. I don't know why we waited until now to add it. Anyway, in the original recording, the bass is absolutely buried in the mix. So it was hard to make out (I may go over my method of picking out bass parts from old recordings in a future video). And the whole song is pretty crudely played. But that's what gives it half of its charm, I suppose. The rhythmic elements give it the other half of its charm and make it compelling. I try to play something that fits with the feel of the original recording. I don't necessarily play it exactly the same every time (e.g., during that recurring C chord), and I sometimes play it sloppy and miss a note or two, but that's OK, when we play this song as a band it I try to bury myself in the mix somewhat. I thought this song was about a bison as beheld by a couple of kids who never saw one before; others think it's about some sort of cryptid. What do you think? Maybe we should write a similar song about SCP-173... ------------------------------------- Technical details are as follows: Music track - Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, Windows Media Player with the lows rolled off on the app's graphic equalizer, played through a Vizio soundbar system. Bass - Plugged directly into an Altec Lansing VS2421 mini speaker system aux input with the help of a 1/4-inch to 1/8-inch adapter Video/microphone - BlackBerry Key2 balanced precariously on a desk, using its native camera app and built-in microphones It might not be "ideal," but it works just fine for now. And actually, when I am just practicing and not recording these dumb videos, I just use my Blackberry to play the music through the main input of the Altec Lansing speakers, with the bass plugged into the aux input. But being that I am using the phone to record videos, please keep in mind that these are recorded at low-level "bedroom" volume, so the phone's microphones pick up a lot of stray acoustic noise from fingers hitting the strings, strings hitting the frets, etc.
