Wide of targets exploding STORYLINE Indian Air Force has launched a large scale military exercise at the Pokhran ranges in Rajasthan, also the site of India''s nuclear tests. More than 100 combat, reconnaissance and transport aircraft including SU-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, MIG 27 and MIG 29 took part in the two-hour display by the world''s fourth-largest air force on Sunday The exercise included bombing of enemy targets, aerial dog fight, simulated battlefield missions and day and night air drop of commandos in the Thar desert. An unmanned aerial vehicle streamed live video images of the target destruction. In addition to 70 aircraft which participated in the exercise, 30 aircraft were kept on standby, in both air and on the ground, according to a statement by the Indian Air Force. Mock radar sites, tanks, marshalling yards, militant camps, infantry fighting vehicles and convoys were among a few of the targets that the pilots destroyed. The dusk and night phase display was the first ever by the Indian Air Force. The aerobatic display teams performed manoeuvres in formations and aerial stunts watched by the Indian president Pratibha Patil, Defence Minister A. K. Antony and foreign diplomats.
