Making Paper Micarta

.. For knife liners and scales. End December I made a bunch paper micarta in different colours. I used paper, epoxy and a bit of acetone to thin it down. The micarta stock for liners is made with 2 to 4 layers of paper. The thicker micarta sheets for scales are made with 20 to 30 layers of paper. I used some old left over epoxy that is veeeery slow curing. It had to be thinned down a little bit because of the cold weather, this way it wets the paper a lot better. The different layers of paper micarta are separated with cling film and sandwiched between to MDF boards and lots of clamps. 24 hours later I cracked them apart and cleaned up the edges with a utility knife. This was easily done because the epoxy was still a little bit soft. This was very easy to do, the same process works for fabric micarta like canvas micarta, blue jeans micarta,... possibilies are endless.
