The Four Elbow Strikes Drill of Bagua Kuntao Silat teaches the practitioner how to move the body as a unit, coiling and uncoiling, twisting and untwisting in synchronistic movement in order to generate power while maintaining balance and with appropriate footwork when necessary. Deceptively forceful strikes and lines of force can be generated from unexpected angles catching the opponent by surprise. However, these elbows also teach that variations of angles can be utilized while learning how to move the body like a serpent with each movement supported by the entire skeletal structure, the force of the movement and the ground. Practice and training with this drill will yield far greater results than expected which will also translate into better movement overall and greater force issued in all strikes, not just elbows. Additionally, defensive movements are also learned teaching how too accept and ground incoming force so that it is less damaging if it makes contact. And when learning to move properly, it becomes far easier to throw your opponent when you desire while becoming more difficult to throw yourself as you are beginning to learn how to play with your body in its entirety.
