The Seleucid Empire was one of the major Hellenistic states that emerged after the death of Alexander the Great. Founded by Seleucus I Nicator, A former general of Alexander, he carved out a vast domain stretching from Anatolia to the borders of India, blending Greek and Eastern traditions in a fragile but ambitious empire. In this first video, we’ll explore the reigns of the early Seleucid kings, from Seleucus I’s military conquests and administrative policies to the challenges faced by his successors. His son, Antiochus I Soter, struggled to consolidate power, while Antiochus II and Seleucus II faced internal strife and external threats that gradually weakened the empire. Finally, we’ll examine the disastrous reign of Seleucus III, whose short rule highlighted the growing instability of the Seleucid dynasty.
