"What To Look for When Using Ultrasound in Alzheimer's / Dementia Care ?" Here are the things to be on alert for when utilizing Ultrasound. There are many different stages of Alzheimer's and Dementia, and I'm noting that in some cases, the patient may be completely past the point of being able to speak, thus limiting your ability to genuinely inquire as to their state of mind. In healthy subject, Ultrasound can often times be readily "felt" thus giving you a simple method to simply ask "How do you feel now?" A response might be like "I feel more present in this moment, in my body, I kind of feel a bit imbibed, like I just drank a little bit of alcohol or something, but it's a nice buzzed feeling, I'm good to drive, etc." In a non-verbal case, you would look for cues such as wiping the mouth of debris from food, being more self-conscious of the real-time state of their appearance or their comfort, potentially adjusting their clothing or blanket for a better feel and fit. In other cases, they may indicate to their caregiver that they would like you to change the content they are watching, such as during commercials on the TV (something I think all sane people would request haha) And also, if they start asking about things that they have done in the past, such as oil painting, or other joyful experiences, they may ask about people they knew from the past. They may struggle less to find "the right word" during casual conversation. Often the first three weeks some of the changes that are developing can be sub-conscious, and hard to observe externally, however, rest assured that their microtubules in their brain are likely re-polymerizing and are experience a rejuvenation like never before. It's likely that absolutely crystal clear improvements might manifest on the 2nd or third month, that is if you follow a standardized 3 week on, and 1 week off style of protocol with the Ultrasound. Good luck and stay tuned for more information and guidance on this amazing new approach to reversing the damage from neurodegeneration. Thank you and remember to take care of each other.
