A case was registered on April 26 under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Mahesh Patil said that the police investigation team later recovered the highly decomposed body of the victim who was dumped on the roadside and packed in a suitcase. During the investigation, the police found that there was a dispute between the victim and the main accused Dinesh Khanyalal Chobisa for the last 6 months over the ownership of a tea stall located opposite a hotel on Kaman-Bhiwandi road. According to the police, Chobisa and his associates hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Balai. As per the plot, they called the victim out of her house on April 12, murdered her and packed her body in a suitcase, and dumped her.
