Skil Sander Restoration (Vintage Power Tool Clean Up)

In this video I restore a vintage aluminum body belt sander made by Skil Saw. This style of handheld belt sanders is commonly referred to as a “locomotive style” belt sander. In my research, I discovered that the handheld belt sander was invented by one of the engineers at Porter Cable. I’m guessing that the Skil Saw Company was inspired by the design and decided to make this line of Sanders. This project ended up being more of a cleanup than a true restoration because there really wasn’t that much wrong with it. In the video, I completely disassemble the sander, clean all of the parts and do a little bit of repair work. Grease all of the bearings, the bushings and the chain drive. Then I reassemble and test the sander.
