"Ladders vs Treehouse" is about why rewriting matters just as much as writing. We all want the finished treehouse, but we forget that we need the ladder to get there. And once we’re up in the treehouse, we don’t need the ladder anymore. Sometimes we keep pieces of songs that aren’t actually helping the song, just because we’re attached to them. But editing, tightening, and cutting what doesn’t serve the story is what makes a song great. Show your work to trusted friends. Ask if it makes sense. Put yourself in the shoes of someone hearing it for the first time. Does it paint the picture you want it to paint? I have a lot of ladders still attached to a lot of okay treehouses. I’m not perfect at this. But learning how to rewrite has been one of the most important skills of my career, and it has made me a much better songwriter. This video is part of Things I Wish I Knew Earlier, a series about creativity, songwriting, and the craft of making art that actually holds up. 📙 How To Remember ORDER NOW: https://a.co/d/5gJh7C8 🎶 Hold The Light Vinyl: https://shop.bandwear.com/collections...
