If you don't believe me, scroll back far enough on my channel and you'll find a Markiplier fan song I made in 2014 based on his Eleusis playthrough (I also re-recorded this fan song in 2017). To this day he remains one of few creators that I watch nearly every single time they upload. Iron Lung has been my favorite indie game since it came out in 2022 (I discovered the game because Markiplier played it). I immediately bought the game as well the soundtrack, and then proceeded to watch every single Let's Play/playthrough of it I could find - I've probably sat through the game in its entirety 12 or so times at this point. There's something absolutely magical about the mood, tone and pacing of Iron Lung that I simply have never quite seen anywhere else (Mouthwashing comes quite close, another one of my very favorites). I used to proudly say to my friends that I am the worlds biggest Iron Lung fan, but I unfortunately think I have been dethroned by Markiplier... Needless to say when Mark announced he was making the movie adaptation of the game it was a very surreal clash of two worlds for me, and I have been extremely excited for the day I'd be able to see it. It was looking very bleak with the cinema premiere initially being US exclusive, but luckily it made it to Sweden only a few days before said premiere. Me and my fiancé saw the movie on January 30th and I thought it was incredible. I have seen many negative takes from "mainstream" viewers which I think is understandable and fair, but in my humble opinion as the world's #2 Iron Lung fan, I think it was an incredibly faithful adaptation with so much passion and love behind it. Now a few words about this cover: I obviously would have loved to cover Iron Lung music back in 2022 as it's usually how I express my love for my favorite pieces of media, but the original Iron Lung OST is VERY ambient focused with little to no melodic components - I have been accused of playing djent chugs over ambient noise and calling it a day before but this would have REALLY been exactly that lmaoo Because of this, I now credit Andrew Hulshult for letting me finally cover Iron Lung music (how I have waited). I was not familiar with his work at all before seeing the movie, and imagine my surpise when I saw him holding an 8-string guitar in his Spotify banner! He is an incredibly well rounded musician who has done music for DUSK (one of David Szymanski's earlier projects) and Doom Eternal among many other projects. I have an incredible amount of respect for Andrew, and I do not by any means want to imply that I improved this track in any way by adding metal elements to it, quite the opposite if anything. This specific track immediately caught my attention while watching the movie - my absolute favorite detail is how the submarine's collision sensor sound was incorporated into the music (and highlighted visually as well). I spent longer than I'd like to admit going through pages and pages of royalty free sound effects online hoping I'd find the sound effect used in the game with no luck, so I ended up recreating the sound from scratch to the best of my ability. I think I got close enough - I layered a few sawtooth synths with a brass sting, the ticking of a clock and the sound of a turn signal from a car. :) I am now done ranting, thanks for listening!
