5 Years in a LIVEtime, released in 2004, is the second home video release by Dream Theater. The video contains a mix of concert footage, promotional video clips, and behind-the-scenes and interview footage from the five years in between the release of their previous home video, Images and Words: Live in Tokyo, and this video. This concert footage was filmed at Le Bataclan in Paris, France on June 25, 1998. The three songs are played back to back in medley form. Peruvian Skies "Peruvian Skies" is the third track from Dream Theater's fourth studio album, "Falling Into Infinity". It is a dark and moody track that shows off a different side of the band. The song is based on an article that Petrucci read about an abused girl in Peru who was raped and beaten, which is where the title came from. Lina Vanessa Medina is known for being the youngest confirmed mother in history. She gave birth to a child at the age of 5 years and 7 months. She suffered from a rare condition of precocious puberty. The identity of the child’s father is still unknown. It sounds like she is having trouble in her home life, since it alludes to her father as being a monster. The terror that comes to the girl appears to come specifically at night, which is why there is "midnight's hysteria" in her eyes. The police first arrested Lina’s father suspecting incest and child abuse, but later released him due to lack of evidence. Many have noticed the semblance of the song in certain sections to Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar" (in the early part of the song, and Metallica's "Enter Sandman" towards the end of the song. On this live version, Dream Theater directly quotes from these songs (Have a Cigar at 01:59 and Enter Sandman at 07:10). Learning to Live "Learning to Live" is the last song on Dream Theater's second album release "Images and Words". Written by bassist John Myung, "Learning to Live" is heavily metaphorical. The song is said to be about the AIDS crisis, which in 1992 was quite prevalent. John Myung has only briefly commented about "Learning to Live" in interviews, but confirmation has been given by Mike Portnoy in other sources that this premise is basically correct. The lyrics included in the full length original version of this song have further references that fit within this theme. Originally known as “Creep With Tonality”, Learning To Live is the longest and most progressive song on Images and Words and is the band’s first officially released song to go beyond ten minutes long. In the original recorded version, the song reprises the piano theme from "Wait for Sleep", making the songs somewhat of a pair. It is the band’s first officially released song to go beyond ten minutes long. The opening lines from the song appear to be a direct lift from the book "Atlas Shrugged" by noted author Ayn Rand. The first phrase, “There was no time for pain, no energy for anger" is a direct quote from Rand's "He had no time for pain, no energy for anger. Within a few weeks, it was over; the blinding stabs of hatred ceased and did not return. He was back in confident self-control on the evening when he telephoned Eddie Willers.” (p.211 of the Centennial Edition) A Change Of Seasons VII. The Crimson Sunset "A Change of Seasons" is the first track off of Dream Theater's EP of the same name, and is the first Dream Theater song released to feature Derek Sherinian on keyboards following Kevin Moore's departure after the release of Awake. The song is split into seven parts, and "Part VII. The Crimson Sunset" is the ending section of the song. The lyrics were written by Mike Portnoy about the death of his mother, Andrea Held Leone, who died in a tragic plane crash in November 1984, after the pilot suffered a heart attack. "It's about the cycle of life. Basically, I took a lot of personal incidents, like losing my mother and a couple of things that happened in my life, and I wrote them into the lyrics." It was the first song that Portnoy had written the lyrics to in the band.
