The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows: A deep surface trough working together with a cut-off low pressure system south of the Cape will keep scattered showers and thunderstorms popping up across most of the Western Cape Province, Eastern Cape, and parts of the Northern Cape Province today, with some of those storms turning severe across the Eastern Cape Province, extreme south-eastern Northern Cape Province, far southern Free State Province, southern KwaZulu-Natal Province, and the Garden Route where heavy downpours could flood low-lying roads and bridges while damaging winds, frequent lightning, and hail threaten homes, farms, and infrastructure. Despite the rain in the south, hot to very hot conditions will blanket most of the country, making for an uncomfortable day where even areas that dodge the storms will be sweating through the heat.
