Nablus, located in the northern West Bank of Palestine, is a city with a long history that stretches back thousands of years. Known for its Old City, traditional markets, and industries like olive oil soap-making, Nablus is made up of distinctive quarters and historic sites that reflect layers of Ottoman, Mamluk, and earlier influences. This journey highlights key locations across the city, from marketplaces and mosques to schools, homes, and factories that shaped its urban and cultural landscape. 📍 Locations in Nablus, Palestine Eastern Market The Eastern Market is one of Nablus’s busiest commercial areas, where vendors sell produce, spices, textiles, and household goods. It has served as a central hub of trade for centuries. Entrance to the Old City The Old City of Nablus is accessed through several historic gates and entrances. These mark the transition from modern Nablus into the older quarters, many of which date back to Ottoman and earlier periods. Al-Manara Square Located in the center of Nablus, Al-Manara Square is a major intersection and gathering spot. It is surrounded by shops and municipal buildings and functions as a focal point for transportation and city activity. Al-Nasr Mosque Al-Nasr Mosque, located near Al-Manara Square, is recognized as the oldest mosque in Nablus. Over its history, it has been rebuilt and renovated multiple times due to damage from earthquakes and conflicts. Dar Ashour Dar Ashour is a historic residential building in Nablus. It represents the traditional architecture of the city, with elements typical of affluent Ottoman-era homes. Al-Fatimiya School Established during the Ottoman period, Al-Fatimiya School is one of the older educational institutions in Nablus. Sheikh Muslim Quarter This quarter is named after Sheikh Muslim and is one of the many neighborhoods that make up the Old City of Nablus. Al-Jitan Courtyard Al-Jitan Courtyard is one of the communal courtyards in Nablus where families traditionally gathered. These spaces often served as shared areas for social and domestic activities. Al-Yasmina Quarter One of the oldest and best-known quarters in Nablus, Al-Yasmina contains a concentration of historic homes, small markets, and religious sites. It is often associated with the cultural identity of the Old City. Al-Khammash Soap Factory The Al-Khammash Soap Factory is among the oldest olive oil soap factories in Nablus.
