Showing how to read barometric pressure off the Toyota clinometer and some modifications. I make use of the barometer feature while camping in the back country. Knowing when inclement weather may be moving in can come in handy. Often we are camped out of range of radio or cell reception, so having a way to keep tabs on the weather is handy. Might influence where you set up camp or whether you bug out a day early or not. The dial reads in mill-bars or 1/1000 of a bar. 1,013 milli-bars is the standard atmospheric pressure at sea level (that's why that mark is highlighted on the dial face). If the pressure is above that point, that usually means good weather and below that point usually means stormy weather, especially if the pressure was higher then fell lower in a short period of time. I also find the tilt meter to be useful in off road driving. I don't look at it all the time, but its useful for "calibrating" your internal "tilt meter". For example, at the beginning of an off-road trail, you may get into an off camber situation and the truck feels tippy. A quick glance and the meter to see it's 25* and I can relax knowing that's nowhere near the tip over angle. I have been at way more than 30* and the truck has remained on all 4 tires. My '85 Toyota 4Runner SR5 model came with the factory clinometer installed. You can install these on most any '84-'88/9 model Toyota pickup or 4Runner model as they usually have the dash back-light plug available near the heater vent. There is also the Tercel 4WD clinometer available, but it lacks the altimeter and instead uses that area for a 2WD/4WD indicator.
