The Polish-Swedish wars had an effect on the control of Parnu, disputed between the Republic of the Two Nations and Swedish Livonia. Finally, the capitulation of Livonia meant the integration of the enclave to the Russian Empire, after the Treaty of Nystad of 1721. In the streets we can perceive all those influences and those that proceeded throughout history. Discovering these geographies is a feast for the eyes. During the Russian imperial period the city would develop thanks to the inauguration of the bathing establishment in 1838, the dismantling of the fortifications and the railway connection with the city of Valga. On February 23, 1918, representatives of the Estonian Salvation Committee read the Estonian declaration of independence, made official a day later in Tallinn. But from 1944 to 1991 the city was integrated into the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic, as part of the Soviet Union.
