Initial impressions on the brand new Streamlight Sidewinder Stalk. The Stalk seems to be an excellently-executed product—intuitive, robust, and feature-rich. It features task lighting in white, red, green, blue, and 940nm IR. The intensity of each color can be adjusted. The beam pattern is just about the perfect compromise of spot/flood you would want based on the likely distances of most NV-oriented tasks, as shown in the beam shot photos at the end of the review. This is one area in which I think a lot of helmet lights have failed up until now. The Stalk also has an IR beacon in case you have friends who are retarded and would otherwise shoot you without one. It takes CR123 batteries, but also accepts AA, which I thought was extra neat. About the only thing I don’t like so far is that the ARC rail lock-up could be tighter. The Stalk comes with a set screw that will keep the light from falling off the rail, but it does wiggle back-and-forth more than I would like, and it makes a little bit of rattling noise. Will update my review after I have more time in the field with the unit. I paid about $125 for my light (STR14301 with the ARC rail adapter).
