originally recorded on 12-26-18 Signal on the left: 5 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs and a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell. Signal on the right: 5 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs and a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell. After catching the Music City Star (and finding my Canon camera in my car), I returned to this crossing with Ethan to wait on the NERR. Not too long afterwards, NERR 8572 and NERR 579 come through lite on their way to pick-up cars from the interchange. This crossing has a bit of an interesting history behind it. Back in the 1980s, the crossing had a pair of old Federal Signal (possibly WCH?) cantilevers with all 8 inch lights (appear to have been a mixture of Modern Industries and Federal Signal) and two mechanical bells, at least one of which was WRRS. Then, sometime in the 1990s, the NERR replaced the overhead lights with Modern Industries 12x20s, and removed one of the mechanical bells around the same time, or at least certainly by 2007 (based on the earliest Street View imagery available). The signals then remained unchanged until sometime between the summer of 2017 and the summer of 2018, when the NERR went through and replaced the crossing entirely. Not entirely sure why it was done, though I'm guessing that Nashville redid this road (replacing all of the old traffic lights and lane control signals) and told the NERR to upgrade the crossing so that it would match the rest of the new equipment. It's a bit interesting though that the crossing is back to having two bells again after having only one for so long. This crossing is also at the eastern end of a section of Hermitage Avenue that features a reversible center lane, hence the lane control signals seen in the background of the video. The crossing also timed out after a while due to the train stopping so the conductor could get out and throw a switch so it wouldn't have to be realigned later. Here's a video from fmnut showing the crossing sometime before 1989, starting at about 1:43 in the video (and showing the crossing shortly afterwards): • Nashville & Eastern And here's CameraBryan's video showing the signals in 2017 prior to being upgraded: • Nashville and Eastern Railroad Local Switc...
