Ayrshire Class 37 and Class 56 power thrash action. 1994

Hopefully this will bring back some pleasant memories of freight traffic in and around Ayr. The first shot of this selection shows a pair of St Blazeys finest hundreds of miles from home with proberbly the most famous freight flow of its time, the Burngullow to Irvine clay liner. The tanks were filled with clay slurry ( a by product of clay production) at Burngullow near St Austell in Cornwall and then moved to the Caledonian paper mill at Irvine near Glasgow where it was used in paper production. 37670 and 673 pile on the power with the return working East of Annbank Junction on the freight only Mauchline branch. The next shot shows two unidentified Class 37s on Enterkine Viaduct on the Killoch Colliery branch crossing this lovely viaduct with loaded HAAs from the colliery. Filmed from the platform at Newton on Ayr 37211 runs light engine from the depot at Ayr through the station and heads towards Falkland Yard to pick up an engineers train. Finally we see 56129 at Annbank Junction waiting while the shunter/ train woman sets the road to allow the 56 and its train of domestic coal in HEAs to leave the Killoch branch and join the Mauchline branch. All these shots were filmed on the 1st June 1994.
