The Rolex Sky-Dweller is specifically designed for frequent travelers and those with busy lifestyles, so it was paramount that Rolex equipped the watch with features that would require little handling and adjustment. Compared to a standard automatic date-displaying watch, which you’d be required to reset and adjust at the end of April, June, September, November, and three times at the end of February (or twice if it’s a leap year) - the Rolex Sky-Dweller with its annual calendar complication won’t seem like much hassle at all. There are, however, things to know about how to operate the watch and utilize it to its full potential. While an annual calendar and a perpetual calendar may sound the same, they are actually quite different. An annual calendar will need to be reset once a year (on March 1st), whereas a watch with a perpetual calendar should pretty much take care of itself as long as it stays running, since it accounts for leap years and automatically adjusts the date accordingly. The Sky-Dweller, being an annual calendar wristwatch, will only need to be set once a year, but this won’t be required at the beginning of the year as you would normally expect, but rather on the first of March. Aside from any minor tweaking that you may need to do here and there, along with any regularly-scheduled maintenance, it’s just about the only time that you’ll ever need to take the watch off. But how exactly do you do it? To begin adjusting the Rolex Sky-Dweller, you’ll first need to operate the Ring Command Bezel, and on this particular model, the iconic fluted bezel serves not only as a decorative feature, but it also connects to the movement lying inside the watch’s robust casing to unlock setting modes and facilitate the adjustment process. How to set the month and date of the Rolex Sky-Dweller watch: 1) Unscrew the winding crown and position it to the first notch. 2) Rotate the bezel to position 1 (the second position from the right). 3) Cycle through the days and months of the year by turning the crown in either direction until the correct date is displayed. The month will be indicated by a different color in a window adjacent to the hour markers on the dial. 5) Push the crown in and screw it down to ensure water resistance. How to set the reference time of the Rolex Sky-Dweller watch: 1) Unscrew the winding crown and position it to the first notch. 2) Rotate the bezel to position 3 (all the way to the left) by fully turning it clockwise until the seconds-hand stops. 3) Turn the crown in either direction to set the minutes and the hour on the 24-hour disc. 4) Return the bezel to 0 by turning it clockwise all the way. 5) Push the crown in and screw it down to ensure water resistance. How to set the local time of the Rolex Sky-Dweller: Note: The reference time must be set before the local time since adjusting the reference time on the 24-hour disc also moves the minute hand and the hour hand that displays local time. 1) Unscrew the winding crown and position it to the first notch. 2) Rotate the bezel to position 2 (the second position from the left). 3) Turn the crown either way to set the local time (the 24-hour disc and minute hand will not move). The date will automatically adjust as the hour hand moves past midnight in a clockwise motion. 4) Turn the bezel clockwise to return it to position 0. 5) Push the crown in and screw it down to ensure water resistance.
