Call us directly: 727-335-0400 It is a narrowing of the lower part of the esophagus, just above where the esophagus joins to the stomach. The ring or stricture gives the following symptoms: trouble swallowing, feeling like something is stuck in your throat, or worsening reflux symptoms. The only treatment offered is dilation and PPI medication. The problem is that the dilation is only temporary and I've met new patients who stopped getting relief from it. The cause is acid reflux creating scarring on the esophagus because esophageal tissue is not designed to be bathed in acid. What we have success with is getting to the root cause of WHY the acid reflux is occurring so that it can stop. The esophagus can then heal. Either the stricture stops worsening because the acid is no longer a problem, or the body heals the stricture on its own over time.
