This video looks at the continual failure of the project team (or Main Roads) to ensure that the detour signage for cyclists and pedestrians is inspected and maintained on a daily basis. If signage falls over, it might stay on the ground face down for several weeks before it disappears. The detour maps that were created for the project weren't very good - but a number of them are now missing. A poor map is better than no map. Much of the detour signage for pedestrians and cyclists has vanished, and the signage that remains is usually "pedestrian only" rather than being aimed at pedestrians and cyclists. The project team still seems to be oblivious to hazards along the detour route that a specific to cyclists - it is doubtful that a pertinent Road Safety Audit was ever undertaken. All of these factors - the failure to audit the detour route before the project started to identify hazards; the failure to fix hazards that have been pointed out; the failure to competently manage the detour signage - shows that Main Roads really failed to "plan ahead" and isn't serious about trying to get residents to mode shift from vehicles to walking and cycling for the remainder of 2026.
